2001 | Vanity (Vaidade)

Vanity. Vaidade. Vanité. Vanità [L. vanitate] n (pl–ties) S.f.1. [U] conceit; having too high an opinion of one’s looks, abilities, etc. 2. [U] worthlessness; quality of being unsatisfying, without true value; [C] vain, worthless thing or act. Oxford’s Advanced Dictionary

Vanity as the starting point to speculate about one’s psychic origins. Vanity as a intrinsic characteristic to urban life, web-like backdrop of human relations. Vanity as the necessity we have for the other’s mirror to build our own identity, as the frantic search for attention and acceptance in society.

The video, the great image-generating vehicle of the 20th century, is the stage-set support, revealing particular details to the public sphere through the furtively invasive objective lenses.

The soundtrack is performed live by the group Brasov.
